{Isn’t that the truth?!}

If there’s one daily task that I absolutely love doing … it’s hanging the laundry on the clothesline.

Truly! And I love using my laundry line … in fact, I haven’t used the dryer since last year {yes, I hung laundry out in the snow this winter} and it’s just wonderful!  I can’t understand why more families don’t use the natural wind and air to dry their clothes. In an age of modern convenience and faster lifestyles, hotter dryers, quicker wash settings, I value the slow pace of hanging out the line each morning.

Loads and loads of sweet-smelling piles of clothes, clean and fresh, piled high in the wicker laundry baskets … during the calm of the morning with the birds singing in the treetops, the stillness of the day is gently and slowly broken by the squeaking of the laundry line winding its way up to the top of the 100-year-old Maple tree … pinning each tiny dress, every handmade blanket … watching the bed sheets billow in the brisk wind … the sun bleaching the diapers clean … it is truly a favorite daily chore.

A wise woman once suggested that instead of mothers looking at their laundry chores as a monotonous daily drudgery, we should look at our laundry as an opportunity to pray over the owner of each article of clothing …

Pin up a blanket for your wee baby and pray over her little life, just starting out, fresh from mistakes and disappointments … hang up a dress for your little girl and pray over her growing little body, her heart … pray for wisdom and strength for your husband as you pin-up endless pairs *and sometimes odd* black dress socks …

And remember …

… little eyes are watching and listening to you …

… so instead of grumbling about your loads of soiled laundry that need washing and tending …

… thank the Heavenly Father that you indeed have a family to create that large, overflowing pile of {hopefully now clean and fresh smelling} basket(s) full of laundry …

Indeed … laundry is a blessing!

P.S. This is on my hopeful list for the winter months …  How fantastic and simple!

Claire We’ve used a drying rack like that forever in Maine, they work so well, worth the investment… I think my dad made ours now that I think about it.
