Winter’s Rest

“Faint music rings in world and dell,
The tinkling of a distant bell,
Where homestead lights with friendly glow,
Glimmer across the drifted snow.”
-L.M. Montgomery

The first (and second and third!) snow has fallen on Prince Edward Island.  It, as always, is absolutely magical and completely welcomed by our family, especially the children. Ever year, with the first snowfall, we (loudly) play “First Snow of the Year” and celebrate. It is an exciting moment for our family!

We have now officially entered one of my favourite seasons – the restful season of winter. This season embraces a full routine of home education, delicious winter-inspired home cooked meals (although home cooking is a year round activity here), weekly winter skating, tea breaks in the afternoon, frosty outside play time and cozy lit nights in a comfortable, warm house. This, indeed, is a wonderful season, if you embrace the blessings that come along with the slow season of frosty mornings and dark evenings.

“I want to live a life that doesn’t require an alarm clock —
one that I can’t wait to wake up and start living each day.”

J. Becker

Over the years, our home life has been cultivated into something I feel is rather special. I’m not sure how others live their day to day routines, but it feels so comfortable and interesting in our home life. I often want to share this secret life with others, but am not sure exactly who wants to hear it … I would like to do a little blog series on home living and the comforts of home, especially in the winter months. Would you be interested?

I hope you, too, are enjoying the season of this wonderful winter.

Cathy Gigi,
I am one to comment little here on your blog posts, yet I should do so more often because I always enjoy reading about your keeping of the home, with love of husband, children and home duties. I am an older Titus two woman that wants to encourage you as you serve your Lord and your family. Keep on dear sister!
Blessings. Cathy

Kate Hello Gigi, I live in Northern Michigan and we get lake effect snow off from Lake Michigan. Sometimes when it snows it seems like we live in a snow shaker globe when looking out the window. It is truly a beautiful display to look at what God has made for us to enjoy His beauty. I would love your blog on home living and comforts of home. Hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas!

Penny Price Yes please it would be lovely to read more posts about winter and embracing slow living in that time. The short days in the northern hemisphere winter can be a challenge for me so it might help to read about your family’s routines.
