“Ruthlessly eliminate the hurry in your life.”
I heard this quote the other day during a broadcast that I listen to – or try to listen to weekly. It really hit home for me. How easy it is to ‘try to keep up’ with the attractions of the busy world. There are so many options of ‘what to do’ right now in life. Sign up for this and that. Go here and there. Busy doing this, stress levels rising. It truly seems like it is ‘cool’ to be busy.
Just a few Saturdays ago, the girls were playing in the shady, green backyard with their new Pet Shop toys (found them on a used buy and sell page online – happiest day of the girls’ lives!) …
… I was hanging out the load of laundry on the line … when the details of an outing I had been invited to rolled about in my head … oh, how I wished I could attend, but with my husband working long hours lately (and I mean LONG) and the daily tasks of the home building up, I really felt as if I was overburdened. “I have no time for anything,” I found myself saying, feeling self pity.
And then, it struck me. As I pegged the 30th pair of little girl clothing on the the clothesline, the sunshine blistering down on my head, and I suddenly realized …Maybe THIS is what I am supposed to be doing with my time. This IS what my time is for … my family. My children. Taking care of them and the home. Mothering my children and keeping the peace at home. Maybe I do have time … time for THIS.
Now I am not saying you should stay home and be lazy. Quite the contrary – just figure out what important aspects are in your life and focus on them. Cut some other things out if you are feeling like your loved ones are suffering from the busy schedule. Or organize better so you are not wasting time and constantly feeling rushed. Cut out screen time (any screen). Leave time for some very important moments that would otherwise be lost in the daily shuffle of a busy life. Move aside or eliminate to leave time in your schedule for back porch coffee dates with girlfriends. Snuggles with sick babies. Visits with grandparents. Family time.
These are my important moments. Right now.
{Not sure where Leia gets her lips from!}
Leia, chatting away with my mom …
Lovelyn is teething and goes between being absolutely adorable and super cute …
to completely unhappy and quite, well, hmmm … dangerous. Today she threw a fork at me during dinner. Her gums hurt. It hurt me when she threw the fork. Poor wee thing.
Another reason I am thankful we are not rushed right now. {If you come visit, watch out for flying forks. Or other kitchen items.}
and the three big Ls … give them an afternoon in their ‘pool’ and they are over the moon …. wouldn’t want to miss moments with these treasures …
And so my challenge for you this week … stop. Slow down. Be ruthless with your schedule. Leave time for life.
“Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”
