Let’s {Candy} Coat It.

On an afternoon this week, when I felt particularly tired (oh, do you all remember this horrible tired-stage of the pregnancy?) and had already spent the morning doing crazy chores and exhausting tasks, the older girls asked to build our gingerbread bunny hatch together.

At first, I didn’t want to.

Why?

Because I was tired and I didn’t want to do the cleanup and I just wanted to spend Lucia’s naptime doing, well, something a lot cleaner than working with icing with a six year old and a three year old. But I knew “No” was the wrong answer.

And so we pulled out the bunny hutch, pieced the little gingerbread house together, spread out the candies, whipped up some icing and had a lovely-sugar-rush-afternoon together.

Yes, it was messy.

Yes, I was the one who cleaned everything up.

But the girls loved it (and so did I!) and that’s what counts … right?

And I must say, they are getting really good at decorating!
