I really can’t believe it’s already Wednesday. We got home from out trip very late Saturday and spent Sunday with family – Monday was reality and realizing the girls were very much off schedule and … very whiny & very tired & very needy. So Monday was spent “just getting through” – you know those kinds of days? As a mom who had been away (for only four days), I felt so guilty that our day was off-track. Mondays are usually lovely around here, but not this week.

Tuesday, not so bad …

But by Wednesday … ahhhh ….. we were back on track. I’ve never been much of an official schedule keeper, but now having three little girls under the age of 6 and with another baby on the way, I’m much more of a schedule-freak. Bedtimes are bedtimes. No fussing around. Mornings are time to freshen up and get ready for the day … laundry HAS to get done or it piles up insanely fast. Dinners have to be prepped or else I’m stuck at 5 p.m. with three whining kids and no idea what I’m serving for dinner …

That being said … I love days like today … where everyone was relaxed, the awful Monday was behind us, Great Gramma was visiting and making jam tarts and Sugar Pies in the kitchen with the girls, the laundry was drying sweetly on the line and the flowers were blooming with open arms in the gardens … well, yes, schedules can be thrown by the wayside at the right time.

I honestly think we live way too busy and too stressed out in today’s society. Some people think I’m busy with work and a house and the girls to tend to, but days like today, mixed in with the regular schedules, are what make my weeks glow. I absolutely LOVE it when I don’t have to get in my truck at all for a few days straight.

Grreat Gramma was amazing today – after showing me how to make a sugar pie, she took the girls into the garden and created a fairy house with them. The girls, enchanted and giggling, were thrilled over the new magical creation … I am still in a dream sometimes with the fact that my favorite, most awesome Gramma moved across the country to live here in the same town as me. I’m so grateful and absolutely in love with the idea that my daughters are growing up knowing how amazing their great-grandma is!

It was wonderful, absolutely delightful to just spend the day outside in the garden, listening to the birds swing their springtime songs and the wind blow through the ever-growing buds on the 110 year old maple trees in the backyard.

Bliss. Perfect bliss.
What was your bliss today or this week? Have you had a moment of absolutely loveliness? Did it come after a moment of craziness and insanity that you were glad to bid goodbye?

P.S. Right before I posted this entry, Tara asked for pics and the recipe of the sugar pie we made for my hubby. This was a quick photo because dinner was just starting and remember that mention of three whining kids before meals? Well, that was starting so …. quick one, sorry, Tara!

sugarpie

And here is the recipe … personally, I had never heard of sugar pie until Abby told me about how his French grandma Gauthier used to make it when he was a child … I know I will never live up to her standards for baking, but this was a labour of love! 😉

April 27, 2010 - 8:17 pm

Chantelle LA TARTE AU SUCRE!!! One of the many awesome things I love about being French Canadian!! 🙂 Isn’t it the sweetest indulgence ever!!?? MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm….. You can’t even mention “tarte au sucre” (or “sugar pie”) at our house without everyone salivating!!

April 25, 2010 - 10:05 pm

Darlene O’Rourke Hey Gillian just want to say I love the imagination your Grandmother gives to the girls with the fairy house”s!!!Such a magical thing! My moment of bliss is at the end of a busy day, watching a gorgeous Lake Huron sunset! Peacefull!

April 22, 2010 - 8:18 pm

Tanya My moment of loveliness today was receiving my Soul Sister Soaps products in the mail!! I’m in love 🙂 Thanks for a great giveaway and for the lovely pics of the Spring and the fairy-girls!

April 22, 2010 - 1:38 pm

Catherine I love your Gramma!!! She is awesome! You are truly blessed. It looks like you had an amazing day yesterday.

April 21, 2010 - 11:48 pm

Tabitha I love the magic a backyard holds for our little ones!! I had a few moments of loveliness today: magically disappearing crabs, a a much healthier Snugglebug who claims to have conquered his fear of ladybugs, and my Gummy Joe giving me smiles 😀

April 21, 2010 - 10:20 pm

Liana For me, my moment of “absolute loveliness” was being swept away into your world of great-grammas, fairies, springtime, pink, being a little girl, and sugar pie! Could you adopt me, please?!! Haha! Thank you for the mini-getaway, Gillian!

April 21, 2010 - 8:30 pm

Mom Awh, so sweet! I love the pics of the girls and their luscious lips!! 🙂 And Gramma is so sweet … I bet the pie was awesome! Lucky Abby!!! xoxo

April 21, 2010 - 8:01 pm

Tara I’m sure your hubby appreciated that you would try to make such a special treat for him 🙂 Doesn’t look quite like the one that I had in Quebec, but I’ve yet to find something exactly the same. You’re definitely one step ahead of me…I haven’t even attempted to try to make it! lol!
My moment of loveliness…my little dude with only 2 teeth flashing me a smile and giggling and then my 3 year old saying ‘I love you Mommy’ just randomly. 🙂 Came on a great day cause Mama’s not feelin so hot.

A {Love} like no Other.

In all the craziness of the last month, there are a few sessions that failed to get a proper sneak peek … so Craig, this one is for you! Well deserved and long awaited! It was such a pleasure meeting you guys and snuggling with your precious baby girl … she truly is beautiful!

{And I should mention that she was four weeks old and still managed to sleep for me! I loved it! Very rarely do I get newborn photos with four week olds!}

{Back}

Hey all!

Well, we’re back from our quick, four day adventure in the Dominican Republic! The wedding went off without a glitch (despite the threatening rain) and everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, was absolutely magical! Gorgeous weather, gorgeous bride, beautiful ocean, fantatstic family to work with … yes, everything was awesome!

I didn’t think it would be fair to post some pictures until the newlyweds arrive back home (they are still in the D.R., enjoying the sun, sand and ocean!) … so ….. sorry, guys … you will have to wait till Monday before I can post a sneak peek. 😉

This trip, however, to the D.R. did bring up a lot of very interesting thoughts in my head … not sure I can share them all on the blog just yet but I hope to one day … stay tuned … it will involve photography and it will be exciting!

The four hour plane ride, however, presented itself with great proofing time so I do have a sneak peek ready for a very special family that I was able to photograph right before I left for the destination wedding.

Colleen and Dave, congratulations on baby #4, McKenna! Your family is priceless and I absolutely LOVED every minute of your session.
