{Love} & Marriage in a Corn Field.

You know you are working with an awesome bride and groom when they let you take them away between the ceremony and the reception, stick them in a damp, cold corn field in the country and they just look at you and say “We trust you!” …. sweet!!!!!!

A big thank you to Diane & Craig Lush, the newlyweds and awesome-est couple ever … thanks for letting me be a part of your special, amazingly-relaxed wedding day … you guys are the best!

Anne Bailey Beautiful pictures!!! The third one from the bottom made my heart melt <3

Grow, baby, Grow.

Tomorrow I’m scheduled for another ultrasound.

That’s two in one week. I have never had so many ultrasounds with one pregnancy before.

Can you please pray that baby has gained some weight? Apparently, it’s growing at a sluggish rate and is measuring quite a few weeks behind. My doctor is a bit concerned and has instructed me to slow down and gain some weight! Now to many of you who know me, you know that I have small babies – so far, the girls have weighed in at 4.11, 5.12, and 5,4 – so small babies are nothing new to me … but this baby is measuring a bit smaller (poor little thing!) and so the doctors want me and baby to fatten up over the next few weeks. The ultrasounds are booked to see if baby is growing and fattening up as it should. I don’t know what happens if baby doesn’t fatten up – but let’s just hope he or she does!

I guess it is to be expected – I have a high metabolism that burns off whatever I eat fairly quickly and I’m also chasing after three other kids and running a photography business alongside a hubby who is very, very busy at work and quite often burning the midnight oil right alongside of me… there are very few moments of ‘down time’ in our life. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not complaining, but I am admitting that is IS indeed very, very busy right now – from the photography to the house life to homeschooling. I’m sure I’m not alone, right moms?

But just pray that baby fattens up and grows –Β  soon. I also gave birth to two of out of my three babies two weeks early … um, so that means anytime at the beginning of October/end of September if this baby decided to be like his/her big sisters! *help*

Oh, and I think I’ve given up on the whole “being ready” thing. I had the baby room halfway cleaned out, then stopped and cleaned out the other girls’ rooms only to put all the weird, unused, where-the-heck-does-this-go kinda things back in the nursery … maybe I’ll tackle that again on Monday. I did manage to pack a wee baby bag with a few sleepers (pink AND blue!) and some diapers. Just in case.
{just some quick photos that Lacey –gosh, that girl rocks – shot for us while we were out as a family this week}

Thanks for your prayers. xo

Jennifer Heemskerk I have been visiting and noticed your baby bump looked rather small for how far along you were,, but I didn’t want to comment because we all carry our babies differently. AS a mother of 4 many small children (under 5) and our last baby coming at 32 weeks weighing 3 1/2pounds, I pray and hope that your little one stays in as long as possible and gets nice and fat! It is difficult to have a baby in the N.I.C.U and have 3 little ones at home as well. Our baby was in hospital for just over a month and I would never wish that experience on anyone. You just don’t feel complete until the baby comes home. So take it easy and EAT EAT EAT!;-)
Here’s a little something to bring encouragement at this time. It’s something that brought me such peace during our experience; Isaiah 41:10

September 24, 2010 - 8:07 pm

Catherine You and baby are in my prayers, Gillian. *Try* to slow down, I know it’s hard, but really, this baby *is SO worth it* and he or she is telling you to slow down, to rest more and to try to gain a bit of weight. PLEASE listen…baby knows best!

This is coming from someone who *was* on bed rest with my baby (yes, believe me it nearly killed me – I am a busy gal too) So, if I was able to do that, YOU can rest more :o) Deal??? ;o)

You’re both gonna be just fine! xo

Tanzyn Beautiful photos and beautiful belly:) xoxox

Soon.

~ To be pregnant is to be vitally alive, thoroughly woman, and undoubtedly inhabited. ~
Anne Buchanan
Soon …

… you will be holding your wee baby in your arms and falling in love all over again …

… and introducing your baby to your sweet family. Ami, you are so blessed … I can’t wait to hear the news!

September 23, 2010 - 12:58 pm

Angie Congratulations Ami and family!! your photos are lovely πŸ™‚

Johnny Appleseed.

Today, we finished homeschooling and piano lessons by early afternoon … I knew I had a session this evening to shoot (which usually means that will be all I book for the day as it is a bit tiring at the end of this pregnancy) … but as I drove the girls home from piano lessons and had the windows rolled down in our truck, I could hear the birds singing, the sunshine was warming our faces, I just knew we couldn’t pass up this opportunity …

So, off apple picking we went! The girls were so excited – our second field trip … πŸ™‚

Yes, Lucia had a typical-over-tired-too-hot-two-year-old tantrum right as I was paying for the apples.

Yes, Lyla and Lucia fought over the (foolishly purchased) candy stick when we walked through the store …

Yes, I was so tired and had way too many Braxton Hicks contractions by the end of the trip ….

…. but we really did have a great time … life is what you make it, isn’t it? I could complain and whine about how ridiculous it was to take three kids apple picking on the hottest day of fall so far (man, was it hot or what?!) nearly 9 months pregnant and deal with Lucia’s meltdowns … or I could look at these images and realize we made memories today and the temper tantrums aside, this *is* how I want to spend my days …

(Okay, I could do with less Braxton Hicks …. )

We’re blessed with a good variety of apple orchards right near us – this one in particular was so lovely …

The apples were big and juice and ready for picking … it didn’t take us long to pick over 30 lbs of apples.

“The apples go like THIS, Lucia …”

Lyla – the take charge girl.

Lucia, the droopy-bottom girl. I need to put her back in 18 month pants because these toddler pants are just not cutting it!

“Hmm, how do I reach those juicy ones?”

Ahhh, the helping hand and watchful eye of a big sister. Or maybe she’s snatching the apple for her own bag …

self-timered-poorly focused, but it’s us … (minus daddy) … now why do all my girls look crabby when I was the one pulling the wagon full of 30 lbs of apples?!

And baby bump was there too. Obviously.

So what am I going to do with all these apples?!

You guessed it – apple sauce! I think I will save that for next week’s project, though … stay tuned for apple-sauce-adventures to come.

September 23, 2010 - 8:51 pm

Pam Soltesz Congratulations on your pregnancy, Gillian! I didn’t know you & Abby were expecting another little life — how exciting!!!

Just wanted to say how much I LOVE your photography — spontaneous, fun, playful, sensual (pregnancy photos) and sensational! You have a great eye…keep up the fab work (though with homeschooling 3 and expecting a 4th very soon not sure how much time you will have to pursue your “hobby”!).

Take care of you and baby….!!

With His heartbeat,
Pam :))

September 23, 2010 - 8:56 am

Lori Love the pics – the orchard was an awesome setting. I also think that Lucia’s droopy bottoms are extra cute πŸ™‚

September 22, 2010 - 10:55 am

Sherri Lacy looks sooooo grown up. It’s cute how Lyla likes to teach Lucia how to do things too. Good memories for you. <3

Signs of {Autumn}

It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life. “
~P.D. James

Autumn is one of my FAVORITE seasons … okay, actually,Β  it IS my favorite time of the year … cozy fires at night, snuggled under a blanket and listening to the fire crackle, crunchy fresh Ontario apple picking and hot apple pies in the afternoon, gingersnaps fresh from the oven, and the beautiful colour of the leaves, slowly making its way across our countryside …. yes, I do love this season …

I noticed a few signs of gorgeous fall day all around me today … just in the little things …Β  we baked, we home schooled, we cleaned, we played outside in the sunshine … it was wonderful … one of my dear friends gave birth to her second daughter today and I am just over the moon excited for her …! This, too, makes me OH SO VERY excited to meet our little one next month!! What a beautiful season to welcome a baby with!

(Let’s just pray baby doesn’t arrive on Thanksgiving weekend – I don’t want to miss that amazing turkey dinner or my mom’s famous homemade buns! Hee hee!)

… homemade ginger snaps (recipe to be posted below because they are TOO good not to pass on the recipe!) ….

fresh apples from the orchard …

Messy-haired, happy-lovin’-life Lyla …

… lots of leaves to sweep up … in our socks, of course … :S … which of course, makes more laundry for me … but I don’t mind …

if it means I can hang it out on the line on such a beautiful day …

How are you enjoying the change of season so far?

P.S. If you want to bring a little fall into your kitchen, you must try this gingersnap recipe. I’m not sure why gingersnaps seem like cookies for the colder months, but they are certainly up there on the yummy list, according to my kids!

~ Gingersnapalicious Cookies ~

1 cup packed brown sugar

3/4 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup molasses

1 egg

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1/3 cup white sugar for decoration

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the brown sugar, oil, molasses, and egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger; stir into the molasses mixture. Roll dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll each ball in white sugar before placing 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in preheated oven, or until center is firm. Cool on wire racks.Β  And ENJOY!!!!

We also baked some delicious apple muffins together. The recipe is from the talented Lori Tinella of Little Chefshead over here to see her apple recipe! The girls LOVE these muffins!! I doubled the batch and am freezing some for later this week because I just KNOW we will run out quickly!

September 28, 2010 - 8:54 pm

Stacey Woods I knew I could count on you to share a recipe! I just came across your cinnamon Christmas ornament recipe yesterday, which reminded me that you’d be doing something beautifully autumnal with your girlies. You don’t disappoint, Gillian! Can’t wait to try these.

And your mama is right… that leaf image is divine!!

September 24, 2010 - 8:06 pm

September 20, 2010 - 8:57 pm

Brenda (Gillian’s Mom) What beautiful pictures .. you make Autumn seem so special. And your cookies look amazing … you know that gingersnaps are my favourite!! I will have to stop in tomorrow and have one with a cup of tea! I love seeing the girls help their mommy … And that leaf picture is amazing – you should enter that into a contest! It should be a cover picture for something .. maybe a book!! xo
