Kiss …

“Nothing compares to the moment you were placed in my arms … and I kissed your sweet baby face for the first time.
Complete love and indescribable joy filled my heart from that day on …”

It was such a delight to work with this precious family … I know their sweet baby boy will be treasured … already so blessed to be born into a family so full of love.

{sigh} There really is something so amazingly wonderful, precious and miraculous with each new baby born into the world … don’t you think?

– Chaim Potok

I absolutely love seeing such whimsical, magical moments happen before my eyes …

P.S. Today, Abby & I got another sneak peek at our sweet little baby via ultrasound … it was lovely! The nicest technician yet (and I’m so thankful for that!) … what a little treat to see the baby before his or her arrival! Can’t believe we’re already at 35 weeks! How IS THAT POSSIBLE?!

September 19, 2010 - 10:22 pm

krista C’MON!!!! having a tea party with your dog??!!! that’s the best!!!! I think the dog is loving it too!!!! lol great pic!

September 19, 2010 - 4:02 pm

Sherri Love the tea party scene. The dog almost looks like s/he is having a conversation with the little girl while she’s pouring. Sort of a real life ‘Alice in Wonderland’. FUN

September 19, 2010 - 10:45 am

Tanya I’m in love with the one of the momma and little girl kissing. But, the one with the doggy is pretty cute too ๐Ÿ˜‰ Praying for safe arrival of baby…soon!

September 19, 2010 - 10:21 am

Petra Oh wow, the first picture brought a tear to my eye. I love seeing children with their beloved pooches. What a fabulous memory you’ve captured. And best of luck for the remaining time you have being pregnant!

Days Go By …

It’s always an honor to work with another professional photographer’s family … a little nerve wracking knowing they are trusting you with such an important job…. ๐Ÿ˜‰ but I also know it’s ‘weird’ being on the other side of the camera as a photographer, as well! (We certainly do get comfortable just shooting all the time, don’t we, Jody?) Jody and I met a few years ago online through a photography forum but hadn’t met in person until her session date.

Meet Jody Findlay of Days Go By Photography and her cute little family.

Workin’ the truck shot.

Her pride and joy.

A little love, a little family hug …

Jody, thank you for trusting Gigi Photography with your family portraits! It was awesome meeting you in person after all these years. ๐Ÿ™‚

P.S. If you are from the Orangeville area, tonight there is a fabulous, darling showcase happening – Bella Noche – at Nurtured – where you will find a vast array of local vendors displaying their goods and products … this list includes Gigi Photography, Yum Yum Cakes, Sassy Sweet Pea, Citrus Dance Inc. and many more awesome businesses …. hope to see you there! It will be a great night out!

September 17, 2010 - 9:48 pm

Amy OMG. I love kids with glasses (yeah I know I am biased as I have 2 of them myself!) I see Nora years from now in that beautiful girl!

Jenn of the Roof Great shots, Gillian (as usual!) What a beautiful little family!

Butterflies & Cookies.

I’ve had a ton of people e-mail and ask me how my homeschooling is coming along since we started last week.

I know – say what? Homeschooling? Running a photography business? Baby on the way and three kids underfoot?! “What, are you crazy, lady?!”

No, I’m not crazy. Oh wait, maybe I am. That would explain a LOT of things … hmmmm …

But all things said and done, the homeschooling has been going AMAZING. I’m not saying it doesn’t have it’s difficulties, but generally speaking, everything has been working out just fine. I’m rather surprised. I thought it would be harder to dedicate that time block needed to do Grade 1 with Lacey, but so far, it’s good. We’ve worked ourselves into a somewhat-normal-routine of getting up, getting dressed, making beds, doing hair, eating breakfast and then STARTING school on time each morning (anytime between 8:30 and 9 a.m. is my goal). The two little ones play together while I homeschool Lacey for a while and then I bring Lyla in for some of the lighter, more interesting subjects (like science and arts/crafts) and also work on her letters/numbers, etc.

We’ve even gone on our first field trip with a few other homeschooling familiesย  – we picked up our own butterfly rearing kit and toured the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.

The girls and I were so excited … we get to watch these caterpillars change into monarch butterflies, we tag them and then release them and track them to Mexico. What a great study! I immediatetly booked out a ton of books from the local library on this subject and we’ve started a whole study unit on butterflies.

What I absolutely love so far about homeschooling is the fact that Lyla (4) and Lucia (2) are learning right alongside with Lacey. It’s amazing. We’ve discovered Lyla (our middle girl) has a head for science and is very eager to learn more. I love it. I love seeing the girls thrive.

We’ve set up the monarch kit in our ‘homeschooling area’ (aka, a portion of our dining room) …

Sadly, the caterpillars have not been well since we brought them home … we were so sad to see them become ill and … um, well, die. How awful! *cringe* Thankfully, we’re not the only ones who’ve had poor luck with these little guys and we’ll be getting new caterpillars next week with high hopes of the project working as planned. (I was very relieved to find out I hadn’t killed our first school project!)

So for those of you who asked …ย  there you go. I hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s been a lot of fun so far … ask me when June rolls around and I might change my mind (hee hee! Just kidding – I know things will be just fine!), but so far, it really is a perfect fit for our family.

Oh, also, some of my readers were asking me to post the zucchiniย  chocolate chip cookie recipe I tweeted about last week.

First, I have to point out where this recipe is from – Lori Tinella of Little Chefs had it on her blog and so yay for Little Chefs!

Make sure you check out her blog for other awesome ideas in the kitchen. This mom knows it all when it comes to eating healthy and yummy!

{Sshhhh, I didn’t have a few of the things called for in the recipe (like agave nectar) so I just used regular plain ol’ sugar. I know, bad … but hey, at least my kids still ate zucchini cookies!}

Here’s the recipe, compliments of Lori:

Chocolate Chip Zucchini Cookies

-1 egg, beaten

-1/2 cup of soft butter

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/3 cups of honey/agave nectar (and this is where I used regular sugar)

1 tbsp. of vanilla extract

1 cup of all purpose flour

1 cup of whole wheat flour (um, I ran out so I had to use regular flour – I know, I probably took away all the healthy aspects of this recipe!!)

-1/2 tsp. of baking soda

1/4 tsp. of cinnamon

1 cup of YUMMY grated zucchini (oh wait, I’m saved! There’s the healthy part right there!)

and then drop in some delicious chocolate chips!

Heat up your oven to 350 degrees. Mix the eggs, sugar, vanilla and butter in one bowl. Them mix all the dry ingredients in another bowl. Mix together both bowls, add in the magic (the zucchini and chocolate chips), drop on cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes. Voila. Healthy, delicious snack.

My kids LOVED them …! Thanks, Lori, for such a great recipe.

Okay, I’ve been promising a few sneak peeks so I better get back to proofing … maybe, first, I’ll have a cookie to eat. Or two. Or three.

September 16, 2010 - 11:11 am

Mich That recipe looks so yummy Gillian. I can’t wait to try it out and hopefully get my girls eating zucchini soon too ๐Ÿ™‚ The pics of your first school trip look great and the girls obviously had an awesome time. I hope the second batch of caterpillars work out for you. Way to go on the homeschooling, you are doing such an awesome job and it must feel so good to know you made the right decision for the L’s!! Congrats.

September 16, 2010 - 10:41 am

Cathy Bray Hi Gigi! Just some advice from moi (the hobby farmer)… Monarch caterpillars LOVE milkweed leaves. But you probably already knew that….Good Luck!

September 16, 2010 - 7:45 am

Sherri Smith So glad you and the girls are enjoying homeschooling. Getting to go on ‘class trips’ with them to places of your own choosing is definitely a benefit. I’m not surprised Lyla likes science… I can definitely see her as a world roving archeologist or chemist (read ‘mad scientist’, lol).

September 15, 2010 - 10:32 pm

Lori Hey Gillian,
Thanks for the mention about me and Little Chefs. I am so glad you all love the cookies, we do too. Ok , next time you can try with agave nectar or use honey. We went to the Butterfly Conservatory last year and also got the kit , itis great. This year we went big and have a tent outside with catepillars. Not sure if you know that they only eat milk weed. If you need any we have lots around our property so please let me know. Happy Cooking!! Lori

September 15, 2010 - 9:44 pm

Catherine I’m so glad you and the girls are loving homeschooling. We have a couple of monarch caterpillars in our kitchen too! We did it last year and Wilson just loved it, and now the twins love it too!

September 15, 2010 - 9:08 pm

Tara C glad to hear the homeschooling is going well! one HUGE benefit to homeschooling…you still get to document special moments in each of the girls lives. so precious!

September 17, 2010 - 2:42 pm

Five on Friday | Fairbanks Alaska Custom Photographer | machc photography blog […] it to Gigi, I am always amazed at all that she takes on & brings to her plate … including those zucchini chocolate chip cookies! […]

Clothes Schmozes.

Who says you need to worry about your clothes for a session with Gigi Photography?

There’s nothing like being footloose and fancy-free in your superman undies and gumboots.

I think I scored big time in the boys’ good books after this shot … the parents, eh, not so much. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Chantelle, thanks for a great shoot! And thanks for letting me fill your boys up with some sugary goodness for the photos … ๐Ÿ˜‰ You’re awesome!

P.S. I’ve been meaning to do an update on homeschooling post … people keep asking me about it so I promise I will get there soon! It’s just been so busy lately (story of life right now, I think!) …. oh, and someone reminded me that, if this baby was coming when Lacey arrived, I’d be giving birth in two weeks … and that started a real panicky feeling in the pit of my stomach so I am not in hustle/panic/gotta-get-everything-done-before-baby-mode! Eeek!

September 19, 2010 - 10:17 pm

September 19, 2010 - 10:07 am

Tim I hate to rain on your parade, but I would highly recommend removing these photos of young boys in underwear. Being the father of 2 young boys myself, it sickens me to think that there are predators out there who are going to look at photos like this to get their jollies — or worse.

Please consider this.

September 15, 2010 - 6:48 am

Mich Amazing pics Gillian. I agree, they are so vibrant. Looks like the jellybeans were a huge hit. Another session full of your awesome ideas. Great job!!
