I opened the box of La Tienda jewelry today, containing all the goodies for the La Tienda party on April 29th (ALL are welcome! Please come!!!) and I nearly started crying. A big lump formed in my throat as I held each item and looked over the fine details. I wondered what the women were thinking of when they made the earings … if all their hopes and dreams for their children and their family’s future were wrapped in the wires and the beads of each necklace and bracelet. Would they even have this chance to start a new life if it wasn’t for La Tienda?
In the box of supplies, there are a few 4×6 photos of the women who have created these necklaces and earings. Looking at their photo and seeing the women behind the stories made it all the more real. I feel so blessed to be able to help these ladies out in this small way. I cannot wait to meet them in person, give them a big hug and start documenting their lives in photographs!
And … wow. Can I just say that Orangeville and the local businesses have been absolutely AMAZING in support {Project} La Tienda! Wow! I’m so impressed! I have always said that I love Orangeville, but now, I’m gushing with MORE love than ever before! Thank you to all the businesses who have voluntereed and agreed to help us raise money for La Tienda in the blog auctions! (More to come … keep reading!)
I really hope you’ve marked April 29th on your calendars – the night of the La Tienda Party! We are having a few fun things happening that night – on top of the wonderful display of jewelry. Evelyn Patterson of Evelyn’s Special Event Decorating will be helping us (Tamara & I) set up the displays and I can’t WAIT to see what she comes up with! Leanne Button of She Takes the Cake is providing sweet goodies for the evening. And of course, we’ll have COFFEE (never a night out without coffee!) …
And the BEST part of all – Rachel Sticklee, the amazing founder of La Tienda, is going to be there HERSELF! Yup, all the way from the Dominican! I want to bless her socks off that evening with all the support – I think it will be amazing for her to see a room full of strangers who care about what her mission. So awesome! I’m thinking about offering a door prize as well – any suggestions? (Leave me some blog lovin’ in the comment section as to what a good door prize would be!)
If you can come out, bring a friend and do some shopping! All the jewelry sales go straight back to helping the women of La Tienda.
We’ve had three successful auctions so far and it’s time for some more. Today’s auction is hosted by my hubby’s favourite place to butter me up with … Korsten Jewellers, located in the beautiful downtown of Orangeville, Ontario.
Can I get a WOOT WOOT from the women out there?!?!?! Seriously.
Korsten’s is offering this charming, heart-shaped blue agate necklace in this week’s auction. 100% of the auction proceeds are being donated to La Tienda. Valued at over $150, this agate stone, along with the sterling silver chain, would look absolutely magical worn with a variety of outfits. Mmmm, I love it already! It’s so vibrant and alive …
Wouldn’t it make a nice present for your mom, grandma, sister or even you?
Yes, I had fun taking this lovely necklace’s photo. 😉

And a big thank you to Korsten Jewellers!
P.S. Some of you have mentioned you would like to donate money to La Tienda directly. Well, guess what?! You can do JUST that! Here is the paypal link for their paypal account.
