“Celebrations are the ritualized interruptions in the continuum of daily life
which remind us who we are,
where we came from and where we are going.”
Milo Shannon-Thornberry
It’s something my brother, sister and I did as children growing up.
Every Christmas, we decorated gingerbread houses. Nothing too unique in this tradition but it stays prominent in my memory, all of us, around my grandma’s small kitchen,
eating candy, decorating a gingerbread house together, getting in the Christmas spirit …
I love building traditions with my children – don’t you?
In my pursuit of a simple Christmas, not to mention living further from town so less access to quick trips to the store,
we haven’t been gracing the doors of many town stores this season … however, I knew we couldn’t miss out on decorating a gingerbread houses together.
An easy search on Pinterest helped me out – graham cracker gingerbread houses. And yes, we had a lovely box of graham crackers in the pantry. 🙂
So simple, so much cuter and easy for the girls to personalize … and also a lot more affordable for large families.
We made nine gingerbread houses just from one box of crackers …
{Handy tip: assemble the houses ahead of time for the children.
Also, melt regular sugar on the stove top, dip the crackers in the hot sugar and use a glue to hold the cracker homes together.
Just be careful – it gets very hot!}
