Sick Days

  .

A few of our little ones were sick yesterday … we took a day of recovery and watched nature documentaries and read books by the fire,
drank ginger tea and consumed bowls of steaming chicken noodle soup …

The girls have requested someone else should fall ill as they so enjoyed the lounging day. And so did I, honestly, despite the late nights of running from sick child to sick child. Sometimes it’s not so bad to have a virus visit your house … {except when your laundry room pipes freeze and you are without laundry facilities. I was this close to using the antique wringer and washboard … but thankfully a kind-hearted gramma has allowed the use of her laundry facilities…}

[This was the last of my pressure canned soups – those canned soups sure came in handy this winter. I suppose it is time to try pressure canning on the wood cookstove.]

{Lavender, choosing the essential oils for our remedies …}

P.S. Thieves oil is the best. Have you used it before?  The history behind Thieves Oil is quite intriguing.
Here is how we made our own own mixture:

10 drops of clove oil
9 drops of lemon essential oil
5 drops of cinnamon bark oil
4 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
3 drops of rosemary essential oil

Mix with a carrier oil  of a ratio of 1:4. Use to diffuse in the air, apply behind ears and bottom of feet.  You can also use it in your homemade household cleaner.
