So much joy. So much fun. I absolutely had a fantastic time with these two gorgeous sisters during their session. Just looking at their images brings joy to my heart.

This week holds more joy … playing with my littles in the backyard and soaking up the sun (in between rain – but thankful for the rain – we need it!), shooting some really fun sessions this week (new things, new ideas, yeah!) and enjoying the wonderfulness of each new day. xo

May your week bring you JOY, as well.

May 30, 2010 - 11:11 pm

Mom What beautiful sisters!! They are complimentary, to each other! xo

Weight is worth the wait.

This week, my husband committed the unforgivable sin.

We were getting ready in the bathroom  when I caught a glimpse of myself in the long-wall-covering-mirror that mocks me each morning. 18 weeks so far in this pregnancy and feeling pretty good. Except … I noticed … something looked bigger … no, not my belly … the dreaded backside. My rear end. My caboose. I turned, looked and rotated some more.

“Ab, I feel like my bum is getting bigger …,” I said, pulling my dress out from my form to see it made a difference. Looking up to my wonderful, considerate hubby, I asked the dreaded question.

“Is it  getting bigger??????”

My sweet, beautiful husband of nearly 8 years very casually shrugged his shoulders and kept on shaving and said, “Well, it does get bigger with each pregnancy.”

SERIOUSLY?!

SERIOUSLY?!??!??!

Seriously. My jaw dropped. Does HE NOT KNOW those WORDS are NEVER to be spoken to a woman, much less a pregnant woman?!

What does one say to such a statement?

How was I supposed to react?

“Thank you, hunny, for that honest opinion,” with a kiss on his cheek?

I think not.
But what you can you do (besides not eat that lovely cinnamon bun I just ate)? I’m pregnant. And things get bigger when you’re pregnant.

Needless to say, belly is getting bigger too … I got hubby to take this photo last Sunday – um, BEFORE the big-bum comment. I probably wouldn’t have been smiling if I knew he was going to say such a thing.

But here we are – baby and I at 18 weeks.

18-weeks

And if you were sick during your pregnancies, you might not want to read this next part.  I’m sorry to all of you who had morning sickness throughout your entire pregnancy … I’m not trying to gloat  or rub it in… but I feel great! But, I am SO thankful for this! It would stink to be sick while running after three other kids and trying to manage a household and your own business.

We also had our first ultrasound this week. I know, what? First?  I missed booking the first appointment. How sad is that? But we managed to make it to this appointment, complete with sloshing, overly-full bladder and a grimace on my face as the ultrasound technician poked and prodded with her magic wand to see our little peanut growing inside.

Ahhhhhh …. the ultrasound. That first magical sneak peek into your future …. the first piece of Heavenly reality that your baby is growing well and healthy and kicking away safely tucked inside the womb. It gets me every time. It doesn’t matter what number of pregnancies … each time is spectacular. Hearing the heartbeat – so strong and steady – and seeing the baby suck his or her thumb or roll about … it’s all so amazing and absolutely delightful!

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best scan ever – according the technician. Baby wasn’t co-operating that much and she said she might need to see me again, but I think everything was okay …

And no, no gender sneak peeks for us! I kinda waited, seeing if the technician would say “he” or “she”  … but she didn’t hint towards either sex … and at the end, she actually said she couldn’t tell either way … so what does that mean, guys?! Boy? Girl?! Hubby is so sure this is another girl. I’m …… hmmmm … not so sure … I really have no feeling one way or another (but I didn’t have that “feeling” with any of the babies so far).

So even though the scan wasn’t the best, here’s baby’s first photo (alien looking and all):

18weeks-ultrasound

Now for some name suggestions …. if we have a girl, we’re sticking with the Ls … I have my heart set on a name for a little girl already but I am open to suggestions!
Boy? Well, that’s another story. I like Leo, but hubby isn’t so sure. We both like Sterling. What do you suggest? We’re not stuck on the Ls if its a boy (so limiting!)…. I’d love to hear your suggestions!

June 14, 2010 - 2:37 pm

Pirella I am 17 weeks pregnant now and I am stuck on Logan for a girl… We still havent settled yet as we have two middle names begining in L … But L names seem to be the way this year! Contrats! This is my first visit to your site and Iam Very Impressed with your work, and hope to book a time before or after birth!

June 12, 2010 - 10:20 am

Sherry I have a little Luke…I think he is just the bestest! He is the sweetest most loving little boy…he is only 3 and out of the blue he will tell me “I love you so much mom!!!!” Melts my heart everytime!

June 4, 2010 - 3:26 pm

Jo Smith What a riot!! Completely hilarious – I love your stories…. they’re quite familiar…lol! I quite agree with the “nothing on you is big” comment – “perfection at it’s peak” is more like it!! Yay Jesus that you’re feeling fabulous!! 😉

June 3, 2010 - 10:47 pm

Rose:) So mannny to choose from…so many beautiful names out there so I wish you luck:)
Larissa is cute and Zachary I luv:)
You look great!!!!

June 3, 2010 - 3:21 pm

Erin Leighton?

June 3, 2010 - 3:20 pm

Erin I also have 3 girls all with the initial “K”. I can’t remember all your girls names but here are some suggestions: Layla, Lyla, Lily, Leah, Laynee, Layna, Lexi, Logan, Leeland, Leena, Livia, Launa, Lydnon, Libby, Lucy, Lynlee, Lyric, Luca, Lewis…….good luck with your decision!!!

June 2, 2010 - 9:27 am

melissa I love the name Nevaeh prounounced Na-vay-ha….it’s heaven backwards…i met a little girl with that name a few years back and fell in love.
For boys names, i love Kyle and Scott.

June 1, 2010 - 2:57 pm

Teresa I’m going with {boy} and could use an “A” name after Abby ?!
Aaron, Adam, Alexander, Ainsley, Anderson, Andy, Adrian, Absalom 🙂 {he could be abs for short} 😉
Have fun looking for a name !

May 31, 2010 - 10:58 pm

Tabitha I love L names for boys 😀 Lachlan being my favorite!! Logan, Liam, Laird, Laughlin (lauf-lin), Lennox, Leith, Lennon, Lorcan, Lucan. Yeah…we had a few “L”‘s on our list, LOL

May 31, 2010 - 9:33 pm

Nancy For a girl Leila…has the word Lei from Hawaii…beautiful flower…for a boy….Liam, Brock…kind of like the Sterling Brock run off the tongue…or vice versa…good luck and all the best throughout the remainder of your pregnancy…looks like my daughters baby will be in hospital the month of June but will definitely let you know as soon as I have an idea when he will be released so we can set up their photo shoot…thank you for being you!!

May 31, 2010 - 3:39 pm

Chris Bright Charlotte for a girl…a little on the popular side the past year or two, but I just looooove “Lottie”…there is your girly “L”! For a boy…Alton. I don’t think a name has to be predetermined. A look into that new, little wrinkly face will tell you what name suits and which one doesn’t. Our Sarah was most definitely a Charlotte before we headed into L&D…but by the time we left, she was Sarah!

May 31, 2010 - 8:14 am

jamie My hubby would say the same thing 😉 I do love him for his honesty, even if there should be a filter on it sometimes.
I think Logan and Liam are great boy names 🙂
I met a baby boy Madden on the weekend and loved his name, very different. The name Lennon was suggested to me when I was unsure of my 2nd boys name.
Happy naming!

May 30, 2010 - 11:31 pm

karen You look Beautiful !!! I love the name “Luke” for a boy and for a wee girl i love “Lauren” !!

May 30, 2010 - 11:10 pm

Tim I can’t believe that the Happy Mortician doesn’t need his own services this morning. I guess given that he was responsible for 3 little cuties already that he figured that he had a few runs in reserve LOL

May 30, 2010 - 9:18 pm

Rachel for a girl – Lilliah (so pretty and just a little bit different to Lily and Lillian!)
for a boy – Oliver? Landen?

May 30, 2010 - 7:35 pm

Jennifer Heemskerk Well, first, I think you set your hubby up!=) You look stunning, regardless of a bigger caboose. It’s nice that your hubby took some photos of you to remember how you looked during these blessed months.
As for name suggestions: for a girl: Lynlee, Lola
And boys (and sticking with L’s even though you said your impartial): Landon, Levi, Lucas,

Choosing a name is so much fun! Congratulations again!
Jen

May 30, 2010 - 2:10 pm

Liz How about: Logan? Liam? Lyndon? Lewis/Louis?

May 30, 2010 - 12:38 am

May 29, 2010 - 10:14 pm

Courtney Aw, cute baby bump! And First ultrasounds are the greatest! I had an ultrasound done 2 weeks ago at 12 weeks, and it’s so amazing to see the little one bouncing and jumping around! As for names? Well, for a girl theres Leah, and for a boy there’s Landon! Either way, congratulations, and be sure to keep us updated with baby news!

May 29, 2010 - 10:00 pm

Caitlin Oooh! I like Levi for a boy. I wish I could use it for our little boy due in September, but my hubby is not so fond of it. It’s at the TOP of my list, though. Maybe you’ll like it too! All the best!

P.S. I’m 26 weeks with my second and still yakking! You’re too lucky!

May 29, 2010 - 9:41 pm

A Belly in a Tub…

When Stephanie booked her maternity session with me, I knew she’d be the girl for this shot, for this idea that I had, but had never tried … thankfully, she was a willing model and just smiled politely when I told her my idea … hopefully she didn’t think I was crazy! This was the prop I was referring to when I wrote hubby just gave me “the look” when I asked him to bring this to a field …. but he did! I have a great husband, yes I do. 🙂

{New} Love.

Without trying to sound cliche, it’s an amazing privilege to watch my client’s (who are so much like friends!) families grow and change over the year … when Jill first came for photos, it was for her maternity session … then they had Owen, we did their family photos and now they have been blessed with another sweet newborn to love – baby Luka.

It’s awesome to see the love just overflowing from this couple for their wee sons … Mike & Jill, you are truly blessed. Drink up all the newness of Luka and be thrilled with the wonderful journey that you will continue.
