Cupcake Crazy!

oh my goodness …..!!!!!

We just tallied up the numbers for the big Cupcake Kids sale happening this Friday and wow …. you guys are amazing!!!!!!!!! We have over 612 pre-ordered cupcakes to make for the sale! WOW!!! This is awesome, soooo very awesome! [Um, I’m kinda scared!! LOL! Everyone is going to be busy baking up a storm this week! I am not doing this alone – My friend, Nicole, is baking with her daughter, my friend Tabi, is baking with her three sons, one friend, Leanne, is baking with her sons and I’m baking with the girls!]

Why are we doing this, you might ask? I know it sounds crazy to bake up over 600 cupcakes in a day and then spend the next day selling them with our kids, but there is a bigger story here.Β  I encourage you to read about the children of Uganda here. All the money raised through the Cupcake Kids sale will go straight to helping the imprisoned children through the aid of Sixty Feet. And not only that, but it is teaching our children how to love others … that even though we are worlds apart, we can still help others … that every little bit you do counts … to think of others before yourself ...

A big thank you to some pretty awesome women out there who have donated ‘cupcake’ items from their businesses to help boost up this sale – here’s a list of what will be ready for purchase the day of the Cupcake Kids sale.

Jen Great idea guys! The winner will be one lucky lady.

Sprinkles, please.

One of my FAVORITE things ever?

FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY!

I’ve been working steadily on a project with Cutie Pies, working on shooting her amazing food-creations for her upcoming website. If you haven’t visited her facebook page yet or tried out her goodies, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

Seriously.

She delivered mini-too-cute-for-words-donuts on Sunday. They were gone before I had time to put the lens cap back on my lens …. my little girls were in Heaven.
Who could blame them?

Anything with colored sprinkles sure can brighten up MY day!

I’d say my job has some pretty sweet perks about it, don’t you agree?! My girls, I know, are pretty darn thankful these days.

Now … okay …. time to announce the winner of the lovely hat from Eloise’s Hand Knits!

#41 – Kristine –

Congratulations, Kristine! These hats are the cutest things ever – you are one lucky girl! I just love all of Eloise’s hand knit goodies! They are amazing! E-mail me and I will hook you up! πŸ™‚

P.S. The BIG CUPCAKE sale is just around the corner! Do not forget to place your order! We can’t wait to see old friends and meet new ones at the sale! 10-4 p.m. at 12 York Street!!!

Amazed.

The word ‘homeschool’ used to make my mind want to explode.

I loved the idea of it.
But, I was scared of the reality of it.
I wanted to try it out, but honestly didn’t think I could.
I do, after all, have four little kids, a business to run and a home to manage, not to mention everything else in between.

So when my then-six-year-old looked up at me with those big brown eyes last September and asked, “Mommy, can I do school at home?”, I just knew in my heart that this new adventure was about to begin. Now, nearly a whole school year later and knowing this is God-led, I am so over-the-moon-incredibly-excited about this whole ‘homeschooling adventure.’

It is AMAZING! I am COMPLETELY 100% sold on this whole, incredible journey!
What an *awesome* privilege to school my girls together this way … and what I’m realizing is …

“Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a Life …”

whether it’s on a recent field trip to a science museum

{which was the coolest place EVER!}

… to learning and discovering together …

to quiet days at home, spending time reading to the little sisters …

or learning to write their letters in flour …

even to taking breaks and bonding with the new baby in the house …

…. I definitely see how this home education is perfect for our little family. I know not everyone approves, nor does everyone understand why I am doing what I’m doing … but *I* know why and I know God approves and thatΒ  … quite honestly …. is what counts in the long run.

Sherri Smith I am so glad it’s working out for you Gillian. And the other wonderful thing is that your younger girls are learning more because they see what the older girl(s) are learning. Enjoy the time together. <3

My Four Little Cupcakes.

It’s almost two weeks till the Cupcake Kids sale.
Have you placed your order yet?

The girls will be waiting to serve you some delicious, homemade cupcakes …

… have you chosen your flavor yet?

We like pink and purple icing – what’s your favorite?

Oh …… oopsie.

Oh dear. Don’t worry, we won’t be selling cupcakes that have been dropped.

And last but not least, little baby, big flower. I know, I couldn’t resist. She won’t be doing any of the baking but she will be overseeing everything, I’m sure.

Did you know 100% of the money raised from this Cupcake Sale will help the homeless children in Africa?

There are government facilities called ‘remand centres’ that are scattered all throughout Africa. In these centers are children who have ‘committed a crime’. The living conditions are shocking. The centres are overcrowded and terribly underfunded. And the worst part? Most of the children in these centres should not even been there – they are simply unwanted children who have been rounded up by police off the streets, handicapped children, orphans and street beggars. This just breaks, completely breaks my heart.

SixtyFeet (the organization that started Cupcake Kids) is an organizations created to bring HOPE and healing to these children through the love of Jesus Christ. They use the money raised through events like our Cupcake Kids sale to help improve the centre, bring in medical care and proper food. They are working to place these helpless children in a loving, safe environment.

Sometimes, it feels like we are worlds away from this sitaution, from Africa, but it is just a plane ride away. And it’s important to care about these children. I want my girls to know they can help, even though they are little, even though we are far away from Africa, even though the situation is hard to grasp for them.

Will you help us raise money for these children?

Cupcake orders can be sent to gillian@gigiphotography.com – let us know what flavor you would like (chocolate, vanilla or red velvet!) and how many. We are taking donations for the cupcakes, so you can give whatever amount you would like.

The sale is on April 15th from 10-4 p.m. at the studio (12 York Street). See you then?
